Personal Life
Sharon Emily Epperson was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States of America in April 12, 1968 as the daughter of David E. Epperson and Cecelia T. Epperson, a Dean of the School of Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh and a retired schoolteacher from Pittsburgh Public School System respectively.
She went to the Harvard University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Government. Later Epperson attended Columbia University and graduated with a Master’s degree in International Affairs. She has also received an honorary doctorate from Carlow University in Pittsburgh.
In August 30th, 1997, Epperson married a fellow award-winning journalist and author, also a native of Pittsburgh, Christopher John Farley. The couple currently lives in Westchester County, New York, and has been blessed with two beautiful children.
Professional Life
In 2000, Epperson started out as an adjunct instructor of international affairs at Columbia University’s School of International Public Affairs. She did a summer internship at the Pittsburgh Press library department when she was 18 years old.
Epperson formerly served as the senior energy correspondent of CNBC, which was stationed at the New York Mercantile Exchange and covered the commodities markets as well on a daily basis.
Epperson has been handed the responsibility to cover the personal finance in USA Weekend magazine. Other magazines including Essence magazine, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and Self magazine, have also featured her writings.
She has also written a book The Big Payoff: 8 Steps Couples Can Take to Make the Most of Their Money and Live Richly Ever After.
Epperson was honored with the Silver World Medal from the New York Festivals in 1999 and the Gracie Allen Award from the Foundation of American Women in Radio and Television in 2001.
She also won the Trailblazer of the Year Award from the New York Association of Black Journalists in 2003 and in the same year, she received an All-Star Award from the Association of women in Communications.
Social Media
The 49-year-old has been a huge influence on social networking sites like Twitter and Instagram although she isn’t usually active on Instagram.
She joined Twitter in the July of 2009 and since then, she has managed to accumulated around 16.9 thousand followers and tweet 7400 times. She is available on Twitter at @sharon_epperson and on Instagram at @sharoneppersoncnbc.
