Wendy Mesley celebrates her birthday on the 8th of January, and she was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1957. She attended and graduated from the Ryerson Polytechnic Institute situated in Toronto.
She tied the marital knot with Peter Mansbridge, another CBC news anchor. Sadly, since things were not working out, their marriage ended in 1992. Mesley decided to take another shot at marriage and remarried Liam McQuade, a marketing executive, in April 17, 1998. The couple has been blessed with a daughter, Kate Rae McQuade.
Mesley was diagnosed with breast cancer and the news was announced in January 2005. She underwent numerous treatments, including two lumpectomies, chemotherapy and radiation.
Professional Life
The famous 61-year-old broadcast journalist had initially begun her journey from radio. During her first years, when her career had just begun, Mesley worked as a host on programs that usually received less publicity.
After a lot of hardships and struggle, she was finally hired by the prestigious news station, CBC and a while later she was already assigned to host the network’s consumer investigation series Marketplace. Currently, Mesley also co-hosts Test the Nation with Brent Bambury. She worked as the cho-host for the investigative newsmagazine CBC News: Disclosure with Diana Swain back in 2001 and 2002.
Mesley was formerly the host for the media and technology series Undercurrents for 6 years from 1995 to 2001. She also makes frequent appearances as back0up anchor for CBC’s flagship evening news program The National.
After returning from her leave for her cancer treatment, Mesley began working full-time at CBC in March 2006. The restless journalist released her documentary “Chasing the Cancer Answer” right after she returned to the network. Her documentary was well received by the views.
She started to emerge as an influential figure after the October of 2009 on the network’s nightly newscast The National. She was eventually promoted to a regular Sunday anchor on the program. She was also assigned as the host for The Weekly with Wendy Mesley, a new Sunday morning talk show on January 14, 2018.
