Arthel Neville

Neville was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States in 20th October, 1962 as the daughter of Doris Neville and Art Neville, who is a singer, songwriter, keyboardist, solo artist and the founder of the New Orleans music groups The Hawketts, The Meters and The Neville Brothers.

She attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican High School in New Orleans. Neville decided to move to New York City in order to follow her dreams, which lied in acting and modeling. She was able to find a role in commercials and on the soap opera Days of Our Lives.

Later Neville went back to New Orleans and joined Xavier University to study prepharmacy. Realizing her true interest, she switched to a journalism course at Southern Methodist University. Later transferring to the University of Texas at Austin, Neville earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. During this period she was already working as a reporter.

While still at college, Neville achieved becoming the first African-American on-air reporter after joining KVUE-TV, where she was assigned to cover breaking news, politics, health-related stories, education scandals and human-interest stories that took place at Austin.

She started out her career after graduation as a reporter and anchor for WWL in New Orleans. She came back to Texas to work as a reporter for KHOU-TV at Houston for a year and went back to New Orleans to work for WVUE.

Neville was hired to host the show Extreme Close-Up in E! Entertainment TV in 1991. She was able to interview over 200 popular stars during the 3 year period that she spent at the program. Gradually Neville became a famous black female entertainment reporter in the States.

She became the first African-American woman to host a nationally syndicated entertainment news magazine program after being selected among 1000 people to anchor Extra for Warner Brothers studios in 1994. She worked on the show until 1996 and in 1997, she partnered with Fred Roggin to host The Arthel & Fred Show.

In the year that followed, Neville went back to New York for the job of a senior correspondent on a syndicated news magazine Fox Files on Fox Network. So she started working at Fox News Channel as an anchor, correspondent, host of Celebrity Spotlight and a weekly contributor on The O’Reilly Factor.

Neville was given the chance to co-host the Miss Teen USA 1993 beauty pageant along with the Miss Universe 1994 pageant in Manila, Philippines. She moved to CNN for the position of host on TalkBack Live in 2002 which made her the first African-American woman to host her own signature show on CNN.

The University of Texas at Austin recognized Neville for her years of brilliant work in broadcast journalism in 2003. She was awarded with the Texas Exes’ Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award.

She went on to co-host Good Day Live at Fox and became the correspondent for a 2005 revival of the syndicated news magazine A Current Affair. She was also present to provide the coverage of Hurricane Katrina’s effects in her hometown of New Orleans.

She began working at the Fox News-produced syndicated news magazine Geraldo at Large as the West Coast bureau chief and correspondent. She joined Fox 5 Morning News at the lead anchor in August of 2008 and was nominated for the 2009 Woman of the Year Award by San Diego Magazine. She came back to Fox News Channel to anchor America’s Newsroom, America’s News Headquarters, and Happening Now in June of 2010.

Currently, Neville is working at Fox News Channel as the weekend anchor. She won the University of Texas at Austin as a Texas Exes 2016 Distinguished Alum in October 28, 2016.
