Gracie was born in 1962 in Bahrain to Scottish oil executive father. Since her childhood days, she aspired herself to be a renowned journalist. She is of Scottish nationality. Furthermore, there is no exact information about her ethnic background.
Carrie Gracie went to the University of Edinburgh, but she left the university to run her own restaurant for a year. Professional life
Gracie firstly became a correspondent as well as worked on assignment including African, Chinese and Asia-Pacific regions on BBC World Service.
Later, she became a correspondent for BBC World Service and then for domestic radio and television in Beijing in 1991.
Carrie Gracie came to limelight after she covered the death of Deng Xiaoping, 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and the handover of Hong Kong in 1997. She was presented with the inaugural Nick Clarke Award in 2008 for her interview with BBC journalist Alan Johnston. Alan was a journalist, who got kidnapped by the Palestinian Army of Islam in 2007.
Gracie gave up from her post - China editor for BBC News- at the end of December 2017/beginning of January 2018, claiming pay discrimination over gender for the BBC’s international editors. Later, she returned to her former post in the BBC newsroom
