Personal Life
Catherine Jean Crier, who celebrates her birthday on the 6th of November, was born on 1954 in Dallas Texas as the daughter of William Crier, a banker and Ann Crier, a horse breeder and housewife. She grew up with her two sisters in her hometown.
Her family purchased a farm in Dallas in 1970 and Crier worked in the farm hauling hays and cleaning stalls. She also competed in the Arabian horse shows across the Southwest.
For her education, she went to Richardson High School and later entered the University of Texas at Austin at the age of 16 and received a Bachelor’s degree in political science and international affairs. She was qualified enough to get a Juris Doctor in Two and a half years from Southern Methodist University School of Law.
Professional Life
Crier started her professional life as an Assistant District Attorney at the Dallas County District Attorney’s office in 1978. She quickly moved up to Felony Chief Prosecutor and later became involved with Riddle & Brown as a civil litigation attorney for two years (1982 to 1984).
At the age of 30, Crier was elected as the State District Judge in 1984, becoming the youngest person in Texas’s history to hold the position. During her time as State District Judge, she also worked as Administrative Judge for Civil District Courts. Despite her prosperous future in law, she opted for a career change after meeting a television news executive.
Crier began her career in broadcast journalism at CNN. She became the co-anchor of Inside Politics ’92 and The World Today. Also hosting a half-hour news talk show, Crier & Company, she kept a panel of female policy experts who talked about national and international issues on the show.
She moved on to ABC News and found work as a correspondent for the news magazine program 20/20 in 1993. As a result of brilliant and dedicated journalism, Crier received an Emmy for Outstanding Investigative Journalism for her work on ‘The Predators’ in 1996. She also filled in for Peter Jennings at World News Tonight. She greatly contributed as one of the founding anchor at Fox News Channel with her program “The Crier Report” in 1996. She became the Executive Editor after joining Court TV in 1999 and her show Catherine Crier Live was broadcasted for six years.
She was also invited by the sports channel ESPN as a horse racing analyst in 2004.
Another one of Crier’s many talents is writing brilliant pieces of books. She wrote a New York Times bestseller The Case Against Lawyers in October and another book named A Deadly Game: The Untold Story of the Scott Peterson Investigation, which was also a #1 New York Times bestseller.
After that she wrote Contempt – How the Right is Wronging American Justice, along with Final Analysis: The Untold Story of the Susan Polk Murder Case. In 2011, Crier released her fifth book Patriot Acts – What Americans Must Do to Save the Republic.
