Friesen,53, was born on 8th October 1964 in Winnipeg, Canada. She holds Canadian nationality and her ethnicity is White. Her father had her work on the farm, and she learned how to drive a tractor when she was six. Her mother was active in local politics.
She did her graduation with Red River College and from 1985 she has been working as a journalist.

In early days of her career, she used to work as a reporter for a huge network called CBC Television in Vancouver, Canada. She also worked as an anchor for the CBC News world. After working there, she switched to other networks as she got many opportunities.
In late 1990s she was enlisted by national networks in Canada and the US and she joined NBC News. Working at NBC, Friesen covered stories out of London as well as the Middle East, including the Israeli Palestinian conflict and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the kidnapping and murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Karachi.
