Diane Sawyer

Diane is the native of Glasgow, Kentucky, United States. As a child, she was named as Lila Diane Sawyer. Her father Erbon Powers ‘Tom’ Sawyer was a judge whereas her mother Jean W. Sawyer was a teacher of an elementary school. Immediately after Diane’s birth, the family moved to Louisville. There, her father rose to a local prominence as Republican politician as well as a community leader.

Sawyer went to the Seneca High School located in Buechel area of the Louisville. While there, she worked as editor-in-chief for her school’s newspaper named The Arrow. She also joined many artistic activities while she was in her senior year of high school.

Diane won the first place in an annual national America’s Junior Miss Scholarship Pageant in the year 1963. She toured the country as America’s Junior Miss from the year 1962 till 1965 and promote the Coca-Cola Pavilion at 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair.

After completing her graduation, she returned back to Kentucky and began to work as a weather forecaster for the WLKY-TV in Louisville. It was in the year 1978 when she again returned back to the reporting. She joined the CBS News as a correspondent.

In February of 1980, The following year in 14th May, president of the CBS announced Sawyer as a co-anchor. She then made her debut on 28th September 1981 and put her own stamp on the broadcast. While her tenure in ABC, she covered several major stories such as the aftermath of September 11th terrorist attack and many more.

Sawyer again returned back as co-anchor of Good Morning America together with Charles Gibson. Sawyer stepped down from anchor chair at the ABC Worlds News in September of 2014.

Sawyer was married to Mike Nichols. The couple got married to each other on 29th April 1988. Later, in 19th November 2014, Nichols died when he was at the age of 83. Diane and Mike have no any children but Mike has three children, two daughters and a son from his previous marriage.

Before getting married to Mike, Sawyer was in the relationships with Frank Gannon who is a Nixon aide and Richard Holbrooke who is a US diplomat. Her total net worth is 80 million dollars. 

Sawyer is now at the age of 68. She was named to the list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women by the Forbes Magazine. She stands tall at the height of five feet and nine inches.
