Personal Life
McCabe, who celebrates her birthday on the 10th of July, was born in 1975 in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, Scotland, United Kingdom.
She attended the University of Edinburgh to study Geophysics and graduated with a first class honors degree after which she interned at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center for three months in Maryland.
She was also involved in a project to look for evidence of climate change in old volcanic soils on the Greek island of Santorini at the University of Oxford, where she also became the elected president of the Jesus College Graduate Common Room.
McCabe tied the marital knot with Renato Marchio, a South African architect in the July of 2008. The couple had their first child, a son, on 25th December, 2010 and second child, another son, on 7th May, 2013.
Professional Life
While she was at Oxford, she did a three-month internship at the New Scientist magazine later becoming the magazine’s sub-editor for four years. In September 2003, she was hired by the BBC Weather team and was given training on new media forecasts at the BBC Digital’s interactive service.
After completing her training at Met Office College in 2005, she was able to become the forecast presenter at numerous BBC outlets including BBC News, Radio 4, BBC World News and BBC One. Eventually, she became the main weather presenter for BBC News at One, occasionally presenting weather on BBC Breakfast.
She started working at GMTV’s weather forecast by replacing Andrea McLean in January 2009 and later in September 2010, she partnered with Lucy Verasamy as the weather presenter and environment correspondent at Daybreak on ITV Breakfast. Her departure from the show was announced on 7th February 2012.
She went on to work for South Today on BBC South in June 2012 and at Reporting Scotland on BBC Scotland in January 2013 as a weather forecaster. She then started presenting the weather forecasts on 5 News on Channel 5, covering for Sian Welby from July 2013 to October 2016.
McCabe has also presented at Sky News’ Sunrise, eventually becoming the network’s Weather Producer. She was promoted to the position of Senior Meteorologist for The Weather Channel UK’s office in January 2015 and in June 2017 she achieved the feat of becoming the world’s first Meteorologist in Residence for the London Marriott Hotel County Hall to provide bespoke weather forecasts.
She is also a regular writer for the parenting columns published on iVillage.co.uk and Junior Magazine.
