Maria Shriver : Personal Life
Maira Owings Shriver celebrates her birthday on the 6th of November and in Chicago, Illinois, United States of America in 1955. She came in to this world as the second child and only daughter of Sargent Shirver, a politician and Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who were of German and Irish descents respectively.
Also to be noted, she is niece to the United States President John F. Kennedy, U.S. Attorney General and the U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, U.S Senator Ted Kennedy and five other siblings.
For her education, Shriver was sent to the Westland Middle School located at Bethesda, Maryland, a suburban region of Washington, D.C. She went on to study at the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart and graduated from high school in 1973.
Later, she attended the Manhattanville College for two years before transferring to Georgetown University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies in June 1977.
Shriver tied the marital knot with famous body builder Arnold Schwarzenegger and the happy couple are blessed with four beautiful children.

Shriver mentions that she first started taking interest in broadcast journalism when she was volunteering for her father’s 1972 U.S. vice presidential race. Shortly after that, she took her first steps in journalism from KYW-TV in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she took up the position of co-anchor on The CBS Morning News with Forest Sawyer for over a year from August 1985 to August 1986.
Starting from 1990 she also co-anchored on NBC Nightly News on Sundays and became a part of Dateline NBC for 2 years (1992-1995) as a contributing anchor. She departed the network after her spouse ran for the 2003 California gubernatorial recall election.
She took up the role of the First Lady of California from November 17, 2003, after her husband was inaugurated as the 38th Governor of California. She has made an appearance as herself on the 1993 movie Last Action Hero and was casted for a minor role in the 2006 TV series Be Prepared.
She came back to television to join the talk show Larry King Live as a substitute host on March 23, 2007. She has also executive-produced American Idealist: The Story of Sergeant Shiver, which was aired for the first time on PBS on January 21, 2008.
Shriver has served in favor of those intellectually disabled as an advocate and is also a member of the International Board of Special Olympics. Best Buddies, a program for people with intellectual disabilities regarding one-to-one friendship and jobs, also has Shriver on their advisory board.
Her company Lovin’ Scoopful was launched in the February of 2008. The charitable Shriver donates 25% of all the companies profits to Special Olympics.
She won two Emmy Awards for her brilliant work in the documentary series The Alzheimer’s Project, that premiered on HBO in May 2009.
She published the first Shiver report, The Shriver Report: A Woman’s Nation Changes Everything on the October of 2009. The Shriver report is basically a report that reflects on the current critical conditions going on in the country and purposes a solution for each one of those problems.
Two other Shriver Reports followed in the years 2010 and 2014.
Shriver returned back to NBC News on October 18, 2013 after the network had announced the return back in April 2013. After her return, she started the job as a co-anchor with Matt Lauer and filled in for Savannah Guthrie.
Shriver did a brilliant during her tenure on the role of The First Lady of California. Some of her most notable contributions include raising awareness on how much women contribute to the state, coming up with practical solutions on the poverty issues and implementing them and creating The Minerva Awards in order to honor the women of California who have helped develop their respective communities.
She launched the WE Connect Program in 2005. The program was initiated to connect with families in need and help them with money-saving programs and support services. She has remained a life-long advocate of volunteerism.
Shriver is also the co-chair of The California Museum for History, Women and the Arts.
