Martha Catherine Kearney ,60, was born on 8th October 1957 in Dublin, Ireland. Her father, Hugh Kearney, historian, first taught at Sussex and later Edinburgh universities. There isn't much information about her mother to media.
She got her primary education from St Wilfrids RC School, Burgess Hill. Shortly, she attended Brighton and Hove High School and completed her secondary level from George Watson's College in Edinburgh.
She studied Classics at St. Anne's College, Oxford and then began her career with LBC Radio in London.
Kearney married Chris Shaw, senior programme controller at Channel 5, in July 2001at Depwade, Norfolk in a private ceremony with the presence of only close relatives, family and close friends.

Professional life
Martha initiated her career in the field of journalism after joining the London-based national talk and phone in a radio station, LBC. She was a reporter on the AM programme before becoming a political correspondent when she covered the United Kingdom general election, 1987.
In 1998, she joined BBC; here she appeared as a presenter for BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. Prior, to this she also worked for Channel 4 as a reporter.
Due to her patience and dedication she became the political editor of BBC Two’s Newsnight. After that, she appeared in the BBC comedy series called, Time Trumpet.
